Here at Government St. UMC we focus primarily on feeding the community, both physically and spiritually. Insofar as the homeless constitute a moderate percentage of our demographic area of service, that is addressed in several different areas: (1) our food pantry supplies primarily non-perishable items such as pasta, canned fruits, meats, and vegetables on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month; (2) we volunteer at McKemie Place, a women’s homeless shelter, serving meals there bimonthly on Saturday evenings; and our (3) upcoming partnership with local ministries in the area, in conjunction with their ministry.
From the perspective of spiritual feeding the community at large, our church has become well known for its drama skits that bring Scripture to life.
